Update! Grapevine Mills Mall “Book Blast”
February 20, 2010
Saturday 1pm – 5pm
Children and parents crowed around tables as
Book Drive For Kids (BDFK) gave away
over 700 books at the Book Blast event sponsored by
Grapevine Mills Mall. Excited
kids posed while holding their books up high as the
BDFK staff snapped a picture. After their “photo
shoot” the children were asked; after they read the
book would they like to share something interesting
about their book. The children’s responses will
be posted on the BDFK Blog. The Blog will be
a new feature on the new and improved BDFK website.
Johnathon Adkins from Grapevine Mills Mall did
a great job organizing the event and BDFK want to thank
him for inviting us. Thank you Johnathon!
A special thanks goes to our BDFK Volunteer Staff
from the University of North Texas; Alpha Phi Omega service
organization. These young adults are great and
a joy to work with. Thank you goes to:

Charles, Sarah Growell.

“The Cube” Homeschool Organization
January 2010
Flower Mound, Texas
“The Cube” Homeschool organization just completed their book collection event which brought in a total of 175 books! Randi Dukes, event organizer, commented that is was touching to see little children donate their books to children who had none. A collection box was set-up where “The Cube” gathers and books were brought in over a period of two weeks. Repurposing used children’s books is one of the backbone efforts of Book Drive For Kids. Thank you, to every child and mom and dad who donated.
Update! Christmas
Give-A-Way Parties
Christmas Spirit was flowing at the Garland and Lancaster BOOK DRIVE FOR KIDS (BDFK) Give-A-Way Parties!
Over 3oo books were given to the K – 6th grade students at Vista Academy
in Garland and Vista Academy in Lancaster. The books were spread out
under the BOOK DRIVE FOR KIDS tent where the kids came and picked out the
book they wanted. After they made their selection, they could go to
the “tattoo table” and get a Santa Claus, penguin or snowman printed on their
hand. Two more stations had kid making your own Christmas decoration and getting
a Christmas goodie bag. Thank you goes to the volunteers from
Responsive Education Solutions in Lewisville Texas who teamed up with the
Vista Academy staff to help make the day special for the students.
Update! Christmas Wrapping Fundraiser
at Golden Triangle Mall
Golden Triangle Mall
Hwy Loop 288 in Denton, Texas
Volunteers Wrap up Christmas!
It was the volunteers that made the difference this Christmas. Many of you
came out and donated your time and energy at the Gift Wrap Station at the
Denton Mall this Christmas season. We grossed close to $2,000.00 by wrapping
presents and "selling" Dollar Books. The proceeds will buy a lot
of books for the needy children.
A special shout-out needs to go to the following people and organizations: The
Church of Corinth's "Do Crew" youth, directed by Mr. Fabricio Salas, Debi
Pizzica, Rindy Tolle, Candace McClure, David Chambers, Charity McClure, Dakota
McClure, April Worthley, Randi Dukes, Elijah Dukes, Kennedy Dukes, Brenda Woods,
Terri Baumann, Dan Clower, Nicky Clower, Becca Davison, Dennis Bingham, Nicole
Caldwell, Virginia Cooper and of course super volunteer Gail Tolle who came
every day!
THANK YOU SO MUCH! Events like this are impossible unless kind and generous
people like you make it happen!
Blessings to All,
Jerry

Update! OTSL Holiday Book Drive!
November 20 – December 18, 2009
Christmas came early for BOOK DRIVE FOR KIDS! OTSL
Charities collected a whopping 5,985 books! The
management staff challenged their employees to go out
to the hedges and the by-ways and collect children’s
books. To inspire the volunteers, many incentives
were offered such as: gift cards, extended lunch period,
and time off. The employees and staff were divided
into groups with a team captain. Each team was
given a 50 gallon collection box to fill-up. To
add to the excitement teams gave them selves “book” names
and decorated the collection box.
After all was said and done and the last book counted the total: 5,985 books. This
is going to make a lot of children happy! It will allow Book Drive For
Kids to give needy children all over the metroplex a book for their very own.
